I39/90 Construction updates

  • Crews got a great start on construction activities to start the 2020 construction season last week. Traffic was shifted onto the northbound side of I-39/90 between the US 12/18 (Beltline) interchange and County AB near McFarland and from Kennedy Road, north of the WIS 26 interchange (Exit 171A), to the US 14 interchange (Exit 171B).

    Also this week, Townline Road and Ruger Road were closed under I-39/90, in Janesville, for bridge demolition. In Beloit, Colley Road, under I-39/90, was closed. Alternate routes are required.

    Weekly Construction Update: March 23-27
    All lane restrictions, road and ramp closures, and work operations are weather dependent and subject to change.

    Two lanes remain open to traffic on I-39/90 (in each direction) during daytime hours and weekends and access remains open to area businesses in the project area.

    NOTE: Next week Monday through Friday, nightly single lane closures (8 p.m. – 5 a.m.) are planned on I-39/90 northbound and southbound in the following work zones, unless noted otherwise. Minor delays may occur during these lane closures.

     

    MADISON

    County AB to US 12/18 (Beltline) interchange, Madison
    Siggelkow Road underpass
    Anticipated construction completion: November 2020

    • All I-39/90 traffic shifted onto the northbound side between the US 12/18 (Beltline) interchange and County AB near McFarland.
      • Two lanes remain open in each direction, separated by a median barrier wall.
      • Be alert for crossovers, don’t tailgate and drive with caution through this area!
    • All I-39/90 traffic is utilizing the existing northbound and southbound lanes within the footprint of the I-39/90 and US 12/18 (Beltline) (Exit 142 A-B) interchange.
      • Two lanes remain open in each direction.
    • Westbound US 12/18 from Millpond Road to the southbound I-39/90 entrance loop ramp.
      • A long-term single lane closure extends on westbound US 12/18, starting just west of Millpond Road and continuing to the loop ramp. The lane closure will continue throughout the 2020 construction season as work progresses in the core of the Beltline interchange.
    • Femrite Drive under I-39/90
      • Work continues on Femrite Drive under the existing northbound and southbound I-39/90 bridges.
      • Daytime single lane closures will take place throughout the week on Femrite Drive.
    • Scheduled lane/ramp closures:
      • Nightly outside lane closure of eastbound US 12/18 near the US 12/18 and I-39/90 (Beltline) interchange.
        • 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, March 23-26
        • 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, March 27
      • Nightly outside lane closure on southbound I-39/90 at County AB
        • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, March 23-26
        • 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, March 27

     

    JANESVILLE

     

    I-39/90 expansion (Kennedy Road to Rock River bridges), Janesville to Edgerton
    Townline Road, County M and Newville Road underpasses
    Anticipated construction completion: Fall 2020

    • All I-39/90 traffic is located in the southbound lanes in the bi-directional configuration from Kennedy Road, north of the WIS 26 interchange, through the project to just south of the Rock River bridges. Two lanes remain open in each direction during daytime hours and weekends.
    • Townline Road, under I-39/90, will OPEN on Monday, March 23.
    • County M under I-39/90 will be CLOSED on Monday, March 23 for bridge structure demolition.
    • Newville Road under I-39/90 will OPEN on Monday, March 23.
    • Rest Area #17 is open

    I-39/90 expansion at WIS 26/Milton Avenue and US 14/Humes Road interchanges, Janesville
    Anticipated construction completion: Fall 2021

    • TRAFFIC ALERT: All I-39/90 traffic is shifted onto the southbound side from Kennedy Road, north of the WIS 26 interchange (Exit 171A), to the US 14 interchange (Exit 171B). Traffic will remain in this configuration until summer 2020.
      • REMINDER: The Ice Age trail is closed (under I-39/90, along Kennedy Road) until October 2020.
    • WIS 26, under I-39/90, will have a northbound lane closure
    • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, March 23-26.

    I-39/90 expansion (south of US 14/Humes Road interchange to Hart Road bridge over I-39/90), Janesville to Beloit
    Anticipated construction completion: Spring 2020

    • All I-39/90 traffic shifted onto their respective sides from south of the US 14 interchange (Exit 171B) to Hart Road near Beloit.
    • I-39/90 southbound inside shoulder will be closed for median ingress and egress.
    • City of Janesville Local Streets – Full Closures
      • Mount Zion Avenue under I-39/90 in Janesville is OPEN.
      • Palmer Drive under the Interstate in Janesville is OPEN.
      • Ruger Avenue under I-39/90 in Janesville is CLOSED.
      • Milwaukee Street under I-39/90 in Janesville is OPEN.
      • County O/Delavan Drive under I-39/90 in Janesville is OPEN.
      • Spring Brook/Ice Age National Scenic Trail under I-39/90 is CLOSED.

     

     

    Beloit

     

    I-39/90 expansion and I-43 reconstruction, Beloit

    • I-39/90 work near Beloit will continue between WIS 11 (Avalon Road) (Exit 177) and Hart Road. Nighttime lane closures are scheduled.
      • Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each travel direction during the daytime, with nightly lane closures to perform work.

    I-39/90 expansion and I-43 reconstruction (Illinois state line to Hart Road; County X/Hart Road to Freeman Parkway)
    Anticipated construction completion: Fall 2021

    • All I-39/90 traffic will be shifted onto the existing southbound lanes the night of Monday, March 23 from Colley Road to Hart Road. Two lanes remain open in each direction, separated by a median barrier wall.
    • Access remains OPEN to the Beloit rest area and businesses.
    • I-43 traffic will have daily lane closures with on lane open in each direction.
    • The loop ramps are CLOSED at the I-39/90 and I-43/WIS 81 interchange in Beloit.
      • I-39/90 traffic must use Exit 185 to access I-43 or WIS 81/Milwaukee Road (view the navigation map).
      • Ramps and crossroad traffic are controlled by traffic signals.
      • Drivers on I-43 should be attentive for reduced speeds heading into Beloit.
    • There will be nightly I-39/90 northbound and southbound lane closures of I-39/90 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to facilitate the upcoming traffic switch.
    • Colley Road under I-39/90, near Beloit, is CLOSED until May 2020.
      • Alternate local routes are required.
    • Ramp Closures schedule for this week:
      • I-43 southbound ramp to I-39/90
        • CLOSED beginning 10 p.m. Monday, March 23 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 24 to facilitate the I-39/90 traffic switch.
    • I-39/90 northbound exit ramp to I-43/WIS 81 westbound exit ramp
      • CLOSED from 10 p.m. Monday, March 23 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 24 to facilitate the I-39/90 traffic switch.
    • Exit to Rest Area 22 in Beloit from I-39 northbound:
    • CLOSED 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 to 5 a.m. Thursday, March 26.
    • There will also be a closure of the auxiliary lane between IL-75 and the Rest Area from 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 to 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26.
